Who are The HELLCATS
The Hellcats are an all female Rock group from Ljubljana in Slovenia formed by sisters Sasha and Sonja Zagorc. The girls originally started performing in their teens while at music school. However, the soon found themselves playing large concerts throughout Europe at various Metal festivals and concerts.
In 2012, the Hellcats toured Russia and were chosen to play at Bosnia’s largest metal Festival Helen Demofest in a competition of over 400 groups. They won Fourth place and were the highest placed foreign band at the festival.
The group, although Slovenian, sing their songs in English. Sasha says ‘Most Rock and Metal bands in Europe write their songs in English. So it is very hard to find a fully Slovenian Metal band”. However, their Debut Album Divja Pot, released in 2013 was fully in Slovenian language. They released their Second album English Warrior Princess’ the following year. They released this in Milan at the start of their Italian Tour. .
In 2015, the girls played Germany for the First time on their Tour of Germany. Here they played the Franconi Rock festival and Mullen Rock festival. However, Hellcats have also been running their own festival in Slovenia on 8th of March each year. The festival features only Women only bands. Sonya says “Male Rock bands can be found everywhere but not always easy to find women groups. So that’s why we do it”.
