Who is Frankie Miller?

Frankie Miller was a Rock and Blues Singer from Glasgow who was big in the 1970’s. He had a very powerful voice that he used to sing Soul and Blues songs amazingly. Frankie had Nine Successful Studio Albums throughout the 1970s and 80’s. He is probably most famous for his rendition of Dougie MacLean’s Classic Scottish Folk Anthem ‘Caledonia’.

Frankie started performing back home around the local circuit in Glasgow with his band The Stoics. But he was soon headed for London to pursue his musical career. Here he played in various musical projects and found himself recording a Solo album Once in a Blue Moon. Although the record sales for the Album weren’t great at the time, it got good reviews and he sung a duet with Phil Lynott’s ‘Still in Love with You’ which appeared on the Thin Lizzy Album ‘Nightlife’. Chrysallis records decided to give him a chance and secured his contract.

But Frankie had his eyes on bigger things and soon was to Travel to America. He went to New Orleans where his stuff went down well and to Atlanta where he also recorded stuff. He put out a series of Hit singles and albums throughout the Seventies and Eighties. ‘Darlin’ almost topped the charts art Number Six on 14 October 1978. But Frankie wasnt just limited to singing. He played the lead role of Jake McQuillain in Peter MacDougall’s 1979 Screen play ‘Just a Boy’s Game’.

However, Frankie’s singing career was sadly cut short in 1994 when he suffered a massive brain tumour. The odds were stacked against him in the hospital and many thought he was going to die. But Frankie pulled through and made an amazing recovery. However, this left him mute and unable to sing anymore. Yet Frankie surprised the world once again by learning to write songs using modern Technology. Perhaps he was done for singing, but he could still write the songs.
