The Clancy Brothers

The Clancy brothers were a highly influential group who rose to popularity in America in the 1960’s as part of the Folk revival of that time. They were probably best known for the Arran sweaters that became their Uniform. The group were a big influence of artists such as Bob Dylan amongst others.

The group was formed by Paddy and Tommy Clancy who originally formed the group. They had fought in WW2 and soon after emigrated to Canada and later to the United States. Following a brief stint in Ohio, the brothers soon moved To New York’s Greenwich Village where they were followed by younger Brother Bobby Clancy. Soon after this, the youngest of the brothers Liam was to join the brothers along with friend Tommy Makem with whom the group performed with for years after.

However, of all the singers, Liam Clancy seemed to be most successful and continued in his Solo career after the group drifted apart. Although Tommy had passed on by the time of this performance, but is replaced by nephews Finbarr Clancy and Robbie O’Connell.

The John Peel Show

The John peel Show was a long running Radio show that was aired Twice a week on BBC radio Two. It was hosted by the late and legendary DJ John Peel himself and ran for almost 30 years. The show was first broadcast in 1975 and lasted right up til 2024. But sadly it came to an end with the Sudden Death of the DJ, aged 64. Nobody lives forever, but it was sad to hear of his departure.

This show was in my opinion, the best music show on BBC Radio. There were various factors contributing to this verdict. The main factor being his support for up and coming bands. If you had a group or were an artist, you could send your Demo in and he’d try to play it. However, he’d get so much sent into him from all over the world that it was impossible for him to play them all. Groups that caught his eye would often come on the show and play live sessions.

But One of the other great things I loved about John Peel was that he knew lots of listeners would be taping his shows at home. So he would make sure each track had played right out to the end before he said a word. But even when he did talk, it would only be to Introduce each track. However, the BBC conditions required him to do a certain amount of talking on each show. So, he would tell you all about a Tour a particular group is doing. Or an album theyd released. So even the time he had to talk was used constructively.

John Peel Today

It would certainly be True to say that he is gone but not forgotten. Although John Peel himself is dead, his spirit surely lives on. The DJ has been dead for over 20 years now. But we see a lot of his legacy displayed in the styles of many DJs today. John Peel set a new standard for music DJ’s. A Standard worthy of a following.

Back in the day, John Peel was the Only DJ that operated the way he did. But nowadays we see his style reflected in the styles of many DJs today. There’s been many a good DJ over the years, but none have left an impact like Peely did. It’s quite an achievement not only to provide your listeners with great music. But to remould how music is broadcast is something special.

The Orange & The Green by The Quare Fellas

Here’s a little rarity from the 1960’s folk revival in Ireland with a catchy little song called ‘The Orange & The green’ by Dublin Folk group, ‘The Quare Fellas’. Hope you enjoy!

The Orange & The Green by The Quare Fellas

The Orange and The Green

This is a Traditional comedy folk song which makes a humorous observation of the situation of ‘Mixed marriages’ in Ireland between Catholic and Protestant individuals and the outcome of their offspring. The Orange being Protestant in reference to The Orange Order, a Pro protestant group that celebrates the reign of King William of orange in the late 17th century. The Green of course refers to the Irish Catholic population.

Leonard Cohen sings So Long Marianne Live in Oslo in 1993.

Here we come with another amazing rendition of his beautiful song ‘So Long Marianne’ from Canadian born Poet, Singer and songwriter Leonard Cohen. This is a live recording of the classic anthem from Oslo in 1993. With backing vocals from the wonderful Sharon Robinson. Hope You Enjoy!

Leonard Cohen – So Long Marianne in Oslo 1993

So Long Marianne Lyrics

Here Comes the Morning Sun

Here Comes the Evening Rain

Oh Yes, here comes Marianne and I

Come over to the window, my little darling
I’d like to try to read your palm
I used to think I was some kind of Gypsy boy
Before I let you take me home

Now so long, Marianne, it’s time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again

Well you know that I love to live with you
But you make me forget so very much
I forget to pray for the angels
And then the angels forget to pray for us

Now so long, Marianne, it’s time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again

We met when we were almost young
Deep in the green lilac park
You held on to me like I was a crucifix
As we went kneeling through the dark

Oh so long, Marianne, it’s time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again

Your letters they all say that you’re beside me now
Then why do I feel alone?
I’m standing on a ledge and your fine spider web
Is fastening my ankle to a stone

Now so long, Marianne, it’s time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again

For now I need your hidden love
I’m cold as a new razor blade
You left when I told you I was curious
I never said that I was brave

Oh so long, Marianne, it’s time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again

Oh, you are really such a pretty one
I see you’ve gone and changed your name again
And just when I climbed this whole mountainside
To wash my eyelids in the rain

Here Comes the Morning Sun

Oh Yeah, here comes the Evening rain

here comes Marianne and I

To wave goodbye to Everyone!

Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Here’s a little classic from Creedence Clearwater with their UK Number One Hit song ‘Bad Moon Rising’. This was from their Album Green River and was released on April 16, 1969. It reached Number Two on the UK Billboard Chart and Number One in the UK singles chart for Three weeks running in September 1969..

Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Bad Moon Rising Lyrics;

I see a bad moon a-rising
I see trouble on the way
yeah, I see earth quakes and lightnin’
I see bad times today

Don’t go ’round tonight
But it’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise

I hear hurricanes a-blowing
I know the end is coming soon
Oh yeah, I fear the river’s over flowing
I hear the voice of rage and ruin

And don’t go ’round tonight
But it’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise

Yeah

Hope you got your things together
I hope you are quite prepared to die
Look’s like we’re in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye

Don’t go ’round tonight
But it’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise
Yeah, don’t go ’round tonight
But it’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise

Creedence Clearwater Revival

Creedence Clearwater Revival were a Swamp-Rock group from El Cerrito, California. They were originally formed in 1959 by brothers John and Tom Fogerty who were both Guitarists. Stu Cook played Bass and Doug Clifford played the drums. They first played as The Blue Velvets. But that only lasted up til 1964 when they changed their name.

They later played as ‘Vision’ but soon changed their name again to ‘The Golliwogs’. But eventually they settled on Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1968 and released 5 Studio albums between then up until 1972/ This is when the band broke up due to personality clashes. There have been rumours of a reunion tour. However, most group members seem uninterested in this. John Fogerty says that ‘Its certainly Possible’. But Clifford and Cook say they have no inclination to have a reunion. So, its unlikely we will see that. But you never know.

However, John Fogerty still plays his own solo material.

Ashnikko Live in Orlando 10th of July 2023

Here’s a live set from Ashnikko performing live at House of Blues Restaurant and Bar in Orlando on the 10th of July, 2023.This show was part of Ashnikko’s ‘Weedkiller’ Tour to promote her Debut Album. In sync with the albums concept, she radiates the feminine energy of a Warrior protagonist ready to destroy the Patriarchy single handedly.

Ashnikko Live in Orlando

This live show is brought to us by Bad Girls Bitch Blog . Bad girl introduces the Concert. She shows us the BBC venue from outside where we see a busy queue from this gig that sold out as soon as it was announced. But explains to us how, after much alarm, dismay and surprise, she managed to get a ticket in the end.

Introduction

So, we get a little tour of the queue and the surrounding neighbourhood in the Florida city. We speak to some of the fans waiting in the queue about favourite Ashnikko Songs, Albums and outfits. Inside the venue, we get a quick glimpse around the place which I’d pretty small for the American Rapper, Singer and Songwriter. But before long, the entertainment begins with a brief Introduction and then it’s the Blue hair girl herself.

The Songs

02. Stupid
03. Working bitch
04. Dont look at it
05. Super Soaker

Ashnikko and the Weedkiller Tour

I just love Ashnikko’s Stage sets and performance. They’re an awesome blend of magical and kick ass. I love the outfits both Ashnikko and her backing singers and dancers wear.

This show was part of Ashnikko’s promotional Tour for her Debut Album ‘Weedkiller’ which was eventually released on the 25th of August 2013. The album was due to be released at the beginning of the Tour in June. However, due to her English Label going under, she had to reschedule the release date to August the 25th. So the tour acted more as a promo taster than a follow up.

Although she’d released the Mixtape ‘Demidevil’, this was her First actual Complete Studio Album. But the singer takes us into a universe where there is decay, destruction and brutality led by a Patrirchal dictatorship. However, she brings hope as the Vigilante of the night. The warrior woman protagonist who takes on the Patriarchy herself. But Afterall, Ashnikko is Kick Ass.
