Blondie

Blondie were formed in 1974 in New York by singer Debbie Harry Boyfriend Chris Stein on Guitar. The couple both played with The Stiletto’s and had broke to form their own project. They recruited help from friends Jimmy Destri on the Keyboards, Gary Valentine on Bass and on Clem Burke on Drums and started playing gigs regularly.

The band were regulars in Max’s Kansas City and CBGBs Venues in New York and were soon releasing their First Single “X Offender” in June 1976. They soon after released their self titled Debut album “Blondie” in December of the same year on Private Stock Records. Although not an initial success, Blondie continued to Tour the U.S.A and the U.K with Television. Supporting acts like Bowie and Iggy Pop, the group established their own following.

When Gary Valentine left to join “The Know”, he was replaced by Frank Infante on drums by in the summer of 1977 and the band, having bought themselves out of their record contract with Private Stock records, they signed with Chrysallis and re-released “Blondie” in September 1977. This sold pretty well in Australia after the Australian Music programme mistakenly aired “In the Flesh” which was the B-Side to X Offender. This was re-released as its own single and hit Number 2 in the Australian Charts in November 1978. The album also made it into the Top 20.

The band had a successful tour of Australia and later tour of the UK and the States. It wasn’t long before they released their Second album Plastic Letters in February 1978. This was a big hit for them in the Uk, reaching the Top 10 in the album chart and a series of chart topping singles to follow.

The Groups Third Album Parallel Lines was released in September 1978 and produced by Mike Chapman. This Hit the UK number One and was the bands most successful album. With series of Top 10 singles including Heart of Glass, Picture This and Hanging on the Telephone, Blondie were now well established in the UK as a leading New Wave band.

Blondies Fourth Album Eat to the Beat was released in September 1979 and once again hit the UK number One.

The Bands Fifth album, Auto-American was released in September 1980.
