Hey there Everyone! I’m Kara, the Founder of The Collective Jukebox, the Worldwide web’s greatest Online Music Community and collection. I’m thrilled that you’ve found us here. So I’m writing this page to explain to you all about the Collective Jukebox, What it is and How you can take part. I hope that this will address any questions or queries you may have about the website and community.
What is The Collective Jukebox?
So, The Collective Jukebox is a concept I came up with some 15 years ago based on Music sharing. It has since grown into a vibrant community of music lovers who are both enthusiastic to share their own favourite music as well as having a thirst for new material and discovering great music they’ve never heard before, whilst discussing and debating these findings with the members who have shared them as well as fellow fans.
The Historical Jukebox

The Collective Jukebox was originally a group that I could post my Music links into whilst leaving it open for others to join me doing the same. At the time I’d been posting a lot of links to my Facebook wall and figured it would be a better idea to tidy up my shared links by creating relevant Groups. So I proceeded to create a whole series of different groups to cater for the multitude of links I was currently sharing every day on Facebook. History Groups, Movie Groups, a Gig guide group among others.
Of course there was a group for the One subject that got me logging onto the Internet to begin with. Music. So The Collective Jukebox Facebook group was created. I added all my Facebook friends and added a short description of the group and how to use it which I pinned to the Top of the page. Before long, we had quite a few people sharing their music links too. This generated discussion and pretty soon, the group became a vibrant little community of Music lovers
Not Just a Group but a Community

But another thing that was born out of the Group was a lot of friendships. As our community members chatted with each other about some of the tunes that were being shared, many friendships were forged. There was indeed a few people who became good friends in the Real Life Offline world as a result of chatting in the Collective Jukebox Group music threads. I can personally corroborate that fact as I have a good friend who I originally met online in the Collective Jukebox Group to begin with. But I also happen to know a few group members who have their own stories to tell of Friendships forged over the Jukebox.
It really was a buzzing little community. there was even talk at one point amongst a few of the community members about having a Collective Jukebox festival. Of course, this didnt happen. But it wasn’t a completely ludicrous or Impossible Idea and always an option in the future should there come a time where it seems worthwhile. It was such a great little group for discovering brilliant music too. Whether it be rarities from your already loved artists that you hadn’t previously heard, or something absolutely New to you altogether, there was always something great to be found every day in the Group.
Security Overkill

Doncha just love it when super-duper security measures that you didnt need to begin with work so well that you cant even get past them yourself? Well, thats kinda what happened with the Collective Jukebox group. The group was created by my Old Facebook account under which I was also group admin. The ONLY admin for the group at that. So any requests to join had to be approved by myself. I think this was originally a setting I’d put in place to keep spammers out. This was something that was quite common at the time and was a massive pain in the ass.
So it was more due to that than anything else that you even had to be approved to join. I was happy for any music lovers to join. But unfortunately we’d been getting loads of spammers all posting about their Double Glazing or Investment Offer or whatever. So thats how it was at that time. It didnt really occur to me to appoint another admin for the sake of back up as there didnt appear to be any demand. Things were running pretty straight forward and besides the spammers, we had o issues. So there didnt seem to be any need to have another admin.
The Lock Out

But then One day, I went to log into my old Facebook account and it told me I dont exist. Yet my profile page is still there with all my Photos and Videos. Even now almost Ten years later, it still remains there to be seen plain as day. Yet if I try and log in, it still tells me that no such account exists. Weird huh? Well, I was able to make a new account. But it was a major pain in the butt and I ended up losing access to my groups that had been created under my old account.
So, I was unable to access the Collective Jukebox as an admin. Whats more is I couldn’t even join as a member. Membership requests had to be manually approved and I was the only person who could approve them. What a pain in the ass huh? So with no input from myself regularly to keep the Group running smoothly, its popularity died off. It was so frustrating not being able to do anything about the group except watch it fall into silence. In fact, I couldn’t even do that as I couldn’t even join the group I created.
Unplugged

So, unfortunately with No access to be able to keep the group running along with being bus with my own issues, the community kinda died off and went cold. It was quite a shame to see as it had once been such a buzzing little group. But with general life going on and time moving past, the group became a thing of the past.
Yet, I’d still have people ask me what happened to the group. Or whether or not it’d be back again. Afterall, all the group members are still music fans and people are still sharing music online. It was just a shame that the Collective Jukebox Group was gone because it had such a great crew of contributors with great diverse musical tastes.
Switching it Back On

Over the past few years since the demise of the Collective Jukebox group, Ive been pretty busy with music related content. I’ve always been a keen blogger on music and have always loved sharing music that way. But recently, when I got to thinking about the group that once was, the idea of merging the both ideas came into my head. I was actually thinking about relaunching my old music blog. But then I figured “Why limit the site to my own musical tastes when we can have a whole plethora of different music with the group.
Well, although the group hasn’t been there for me to share my musical recommendations into for the past few years since it’s absence, that doesn’t mean that I havent been busy online with Music related content. In fact, Music has always been a big part of the time I spend online. It always has been as long as I’ve been using the Worldwide Web. It was Music that initially got me started on the Internet and has always been my main focus.
So, I decided to relaunch the group. However, this time around, it’s not just a group, but a whole web entity of it’s own. So here we are with The Collective Jukebox website Using my New Facebook account, I started a New Collective Jukebox group and started to add some of the original group members.
Who runs the site?
The Collective Jukebox is what the name suggests; A Collective. The content of the website is an exhibition of the music that’s been shared by community members in the Collective Jukebox Facebook Group.
